    1. Not the Susan Grant I'm used to. I found the protagonist's willingness to accept her circumstances without any suspicion irritating and unbelievable and by the time she does start questioning things it was too late. Accepting everything she's told because it comes with a huge serving of luxury and ease from a stranger who is okay with describing himself as a dictator? Oh, but he's soooo attractive too! No. Just Her hard military training and natural wariness and personal strength seem to have st [...]

    2. I likeSusan Grant sci-fi writing, but I had problems with the plot and the heroine herself inThe Legend of Banzai Maguire, even though by the end I had started to finally enjoy it.Banzai Maguire is a pilot in the year 2006. She is shot down over Korea along with her wingman and best friend Scarlet, both are cryogenically frozen and awaken in the year 2176. She has become a legend, thus it develops.Banzai’s easy willingness to accept her new circumstances without suspicion troubled me. It almos [...]

    3. Thank you, Luli, for your amazing insight! Because of our buddy-read, my awareness was elevated when I read The Legend of Banzai Maguire for a second time. I just wish we could have figured out what the differences were between the original paperback and the new, longer and re-edited Kindle version. We both agreed that new readers should avoid the prologue. As it was somewhat revealing: start at Chapter 1. In 2006, Bree ‘Banzai’ Maguire along with her wingman, Cam ‘Scarlet’ Tucker, were p [...]

    4. You can find this review in English below.*Fantástica lectura con Linda*Para mayor facilidad voy a diseccionar la historia en tres partes.Parte 1: 5 stars.

    5. I’d read nearly all of Susie’s books by the time I picked up this one, and I’m a big fan so I had a fair idea of what to expect (ie. Awesomeness). This book, unlike all of Susie’s other books (excluding ‘The Scarlet Empress’ which is in the same series) is written as a series alongside three other authors (Susie writes the bookends to the series, first and last). The idea is that in 2176, Banzai Maguire wakes up after having spent 170 years in stasis, a position she comes to not by c [...]

    6. Bree "Banzai" Maguire is a pilot working in South Korea. When she does a flyover, she's shot down and put into hibernation, supposedly for a couple of days. It ends up being around 170 years. The world is different, the nations are different but it seems the fight for freedom is the same as it was when the US fought for freedom and now they're rallying around Banzai as this symbol and catalyst of freedom. Very good book. I'm going to order the 2nd one from the library.

    7. I really enjoyed this, enough that I've tracked down either digital or paper copies of the rest of the 5 book series, even though a different author wrote each entry. Bree 'Banzai' MacGuire is a fighter pilot who sets out on a routine peacekeeping patrol over the DMZ between North & South Korea in 2006 (book was published in 2004 so this is slightly in the future from the start). Shot down by a handheld missile, Banzai is captured by a scientist operating outside legitimate labs who takes he [...]

    8. I love futuristics, and bought this series when I heard about Liz Maverick's The Shadow Runners. Australia in the year 2176? I'm so there! But that's the third book in this series.First up is Susan Grant's The Legend of Banzai Maguire. In 2006, US fighter pilot Bree Maguire is shot down, captured, and put in bio-stasis. Cryonics is one of my most-wished things to read about, so I love this bit.170 years later, life on this planet is different in 2176. Geographically, some countries have disappea [...]

    9. This is the first of a 5 volume series set in 2176 written by multiple authors. Captain Bree 'Banzai' Maguire and her wingman, Cam 'Scarlet' Tucker are shot down in a routine patrol along the DMZ in Korea by a mad scientist who is looking for subjects for his experiments in bio-stasis. When Banzai is awakened it is 2176 and she is in the Kingdom of Asia being 'protected' by Prince Kyber. It seems Banzai is a hot property and also pursued by a treasure hunter with ties to the United Colonies of E [...]

    10. I like Susan Grant's sci-fi romance writing, but I could not get into this book. I think it might have to do with the idea that this is the first volume in a five volume series with four different authors. Banzai's story does not conclude in this volume, but must continue over the next four. She will not be the main character, but must be in the background somewhere. (Susan then will write the fifth book and bring the whole thing to a close). I tend to read series that have volumes that stand al [...]

    11. This was a bland read.I really had hoped for a cool, action-packed SF read with a bit of romance on the side. Unfortunately this book is slow and the romance is lukewarm at best.Banzai is a rather unremarkable heroine in my opinion, but somehow she's the only person to save the world from stuff. I will confess I didn't really get into the world building, because as soon as they started talking politics I tuned out. The message was: "Future world is bad! Banzai is the one true savior, and she and [...]

    12. * #1 in the 2176 Futuristic/Action/Romance series *Susan Grant is a HUGE favorite author, so a new to me title of her book is a treat :-)This five book series, which takes place in the year 2176, features four different authors (Susan Grant authors #1 & #5).In the year 2006, "Banzai" Maguire, a female F-16 pilot, is shot down over enemy airspace, is captured, and put into bio-statis. When she wakes, it's 170 years later -- the year 2176. The world is in crisis, and she's a hotly contested pr [...]

    13. This book is about a female fighter pilot, Banzai MacGuire, who was shot down over North Korea and was captured by a scientist. She, and her wingmate, Cam, were put in stasis. Banzai was found 160 years later by a Seal, Tyler Armstrong. Ty is from the UCE, what used to be the United States. But while trying to free Banzai from stasis, he gets caught by the Crown Prince of Asia, Prince Kyber. Now that Ty is in prison, Kyber tries to seduce Banzai. He wants her and he wants to flaunt her to the UC [...]

    14. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. This book is the first book in a 2 book series and has been updated since its original release. I was hooked from the very beginning and can't wait to dig into book 2. What happens when you wake up 160 years in the future and everything you knew is no more well this happened to Banzai. Oh and Ty is one smokin' hot futuristic Seal. The sparks that fly with these two burn hotter than a jet engine on after burn. I love reading futuristic [...]

    15. I seem to be reading-girl right now. This one was a kind of cool, unusual romance. Our heroine is a pilot in the year 2006. She is shot down in enemy territory and is cryogenically frozen and awakes in the year 2176 to find that she has become legend and is being called to re-awaken democracy in an autocratic world. I liked her a lot-- smart, sassy and bad-ass. And the military-sci-fi aspect of it makes it pretty unusual for a romance (though, it does have the requisite Navy SEAL for a hero, alb [...]

    16. Book #1 in 2176 Series. Book #5 is also written by Susan Grant, the other's have different authors. This was a neat, fast paced, sci-fi. In present day, Banzai's (fighter pilot) jet is shot down and shes put in cold freeze for 170 years. Ty rescues here, but 170 years later--2176. They go on a "fight for freedom" spree and there is a lot of "history often repeats itself" theme. Nice read.

    17. The Legend of Banzai Maguire - 2176, Bk 1 by Susan Grant Bree "Banzai" Maguire is shot down in Korean airspace, Captured by a mad scientist, placed in suspended animation. She is awakened in the year 2176.Tyler "Ty" Armstrom is a SEAL commander and treasure hunter. He sneaks into the under sea cave where Bree has been in stasis for over 150 years. She is barely awakened when they are both captured by the forces of the Han Dynasty.

    18. I gave this three stars not necessarily because the writing was so good, but because I lower my standards a bit when I read paperback romance (which is almost never). But overall, not a miserable read at all, and I (I hate to admit it) am kind of curious how the rest of the series works out. Lots of action, and this first book is really setting up the rest of the series in terms of setting so some of the romance actually seemed to be left on the back burner.

    19. Good book!I love this author! I was unsure if I would enjoy this story after reading the premise. Of course once I started reading it was hard to stop. She does a wonderful job of creating a new world in her books and I just love the variety of characters. It was hard to put down and live my real life. I would definitely recommend this book.

    20. Hmmm was so so. I took this book on vacation because it was a light read and because it was about time travel and I tend to like someone visiting a different time period. Lo and behold it turns out to be the first in a 5 part series. So it kind of leaves you hanging and yet it wasn't that great that you want to read more.

    21. A page turner from beginning to end! Bonzai is a fighter pilot who gets shot down along with her wingman/woman, Cam. Bonzai wakes up 160 years later in a fabulous palace but later learns a revolution is brewing. Hmmm. Luxury or fighting Guess what she chooses!I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

    22. This book was mostly plot - military pilot Banzai shot down and put to sleep then awakened in the year 2176 by USC commander Tyler. The romance played a minor role. Also, I read its sequel Scarlet Empress first so I already knew lots of the background description.

    23. I picked this up in a dollar store due to its intriguing cover and back cover blurb. The story was OK, but I never grew to care about any of the characters. I'm not sorry I spent the time to read it, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price.

    24. I was disappointed by this book. It involves time travel so I was expecting a really good read, but the time element was only a tiny factor in the story. I doubt that I'll try to read the next in the series.

    25. Garbage. I hated this book. It was never explained why the main character was so "legendary" for being a fighter pilot in her own time. There are lots of fighter pilots. Big deal. There was no reason for her to have a reputation past her time-skipping.

    26. Not bad, but the idea was more exciting than the story itself. And it definitely needs a sequel to finish the story. Each book in the series is written by a different author, I think, so I will probably try another one.

    27. I enjoyed this book, but it was a bit slow for a lot of the time, busy explaining how things looked rather than getting into the story. I'm hoping, if I continue the series, that it will pick up.

    28. This was okay. Pretty lengthy descriptions and if you're interested in learning about USAF terminology, it makes for good education.
