    1. So, a review of the two seasons following the departure of Fergie from Manchester United. Firstly the short reign of David Moyes and then the first season of LGV. Although this is factual, it fails to capture the imagination and give the insight it should do. The problem is that most fans, or interested on-lookers, know what happened and will have read the press reporting on the various views of Moyes and then LGV. Both mangers were flawed choices, the job was too big for Moyes and LGV was too i [...]

    2. Not really as good as I expected, and as a United fan that reads everything said about them in the press, especially in the Guardian (who Jackson writes for) this book provided nothing new or interesting. The Moyes section is short and rushed and all it does is point out all the failures of Moyes - we knew this already. The Van Gaal section is longer but all it really does is act as a collection of match reports, with a bit of hyperbole thrown in by Jackson to make it sound more interesting. I w [...]

    3. A decent look at the almost suffocating attention soccer gets in England, as exemplified by the two managers who followed Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson in successive seasons there. The contrast of David Moyes (fired after one season) and Louis van Gaal (who improved the team) doesn't work as well knowing that Van Gaal was fired the season after the book was published, but it does show the importance of a manager who's accustomed to managing big clubs and to understanding the pressur [...]

    4. Good background on what happened on what went wrong at Manchester United, but nothing really new came out of the book.I found that everything I wanted to know was not in detail. No background was provided on why Moyes was appointed and then sacked. What role did the Class of 92 had and what led to the dismissal of Moyes. The section on Moyes was short but not really going into detail on whether the appointment was the right one and whether there were hidden forces within the club which prompted [...]

    5. This book was published at the end of the 2014-15 season, so has been rather overtaken by events. It's a brisk, well informed account of poor David Moyes and his 10 months in charge at Old Trafford, followed by Louis Van Gaal's first season and a bit.The writing is weird in places though. Take this passage, where I really thought Jamie Jackson must have been on something: "This is football, not war. It's a game. A sport. Viewed at a distance it's twenty-two stick men and a ball on a patch of gras [...]

    6. I found the book okay overall but slightly repetitive at times, especially during the Moyes section where it felt as if entire paragraphs had been copy and pasted. Would have liked a little more info in the psyche of each manager and what made them different from each other but overall account of the depressing two seasons at Man Utd.

    7. A very good read. The section on Van Gaal is much stronger, perhaps because he is much more of a personality? It seems Moyes might be more vanilla in real life as well as on the page. The author has a much more literary style than I am used to with newspaper reporters. His writing took some getting used to, but overall is really good.
